Stories from preference data
The 4th International Summer School on Preference Learning for Ranking and Ordinal Data.
PrefStat — a community for preference statistics
PrefStat is a permanent inter-university research and working group devoted to preference statistics. Beyond this summer school, it brings the community together year-round — disseminating methods, connecting researchers, and growing the field of preference learning across institutions and countries.
Conference sessions
Specialised sessions on preference learning at leading international statistics conferences.
Workshops
Focused workshops that connect methods, applications, and the people working on them.
Annual summer school
A high-level school held every year in a different city — Calasetta, Oslo, Valladolid and now Leiden.
Statistical learning from preference information
PrefStat disseminates statistical approaches in preference learning — the modelling and analysis of rankings, ratings and ordinal data. From recommender systems and Large Language Models to surveys, marketing and political science, it combines lectures by leading scholars with hands-on tutorials in R.
Foundations
Core concepts and techniques: types of preference data, measures of agreement and disagreement, methods for analysis.

From individual rankings to a consensus
Preference learning often starts here: several judges rank the same items, and we look for the ranking that best represents them all. Tap any item to promote it, or shuffle the judges — the consensus (a Borda aggregation) updates live.
Each judge ranks 5 parts of the school. Click an item to move it up.
